Glass Crystal, Dichroic Lens

Glass – L250 W200 H110mm

Photographer - Russell Watson

Another in the artist’s Future Fossils series, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out, highlights objects made by the glass industry that can never be recycled. The arsenal of ‘un-recyclables’ including Pyrex, mirror, mixed colours of glass, window glass, already recycled glass products and light bulbs.  A large portion of the glass industry is built on the material’s ‘good will’ as an entirely recyclable commodity.

There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out, a title borrowed from The Smiths song from the year the artist was born in, draws attention to the glass it is made from and considers all of the other discarded glass products. Hiding beneath the landfill surface for future generations to grapple with, millions of light globes although no longer functional will never go out.
